I think the word you were looking for instead of “jars” for things people were drinking from is “goblets.” Goblets, chalices, flagons, and mugs were various medieval drinking devices. You can google them, and they also formed a very witty little comic routine in a movie called The Black Fox. The Chalice of the Palace holds the Brew that is True.
The movie you’re thinking of is “The Court Jester” starring Danny Kaye.
